About Marc Hogeboom
Marc Hogeboom (1967) was born and raised in Amsterdam-Zuid, where he still lives with his wife. They have two children who have each gone their separate ways. He is an independent entrepreneur, investor, and advisor to several medium-sized and large companies within and outside the financial services sector. She is a professor of paediatric oncology at the Princess Maxima Centre in Utrecht.
From student to specialist
Marc Hogeboom studied economics at the Free University in Amsterdam, where he obtained his master’s degree in economics. During his studies, he was an active member of the student association at the Free University and founded several companies. He then specialised further in accountancy and became a chartered accountant (RA) in 1993. After completing his studies, Marc Hogeboom spent months travelling through the colourful landscapes of India and Nepal before starting his career at KPMG. A real culture shock at the time, but an unforgettable experience.
Career with KPMG and beyond
Marc Hogeboom has not had many employers, but his loyalty to KPMG has been remarkable. His career started there in 1990 as a chief assistant accountant, at the bottom of the career ladder. He then progressed steadily up the ladder and saw many companies inside and out in the role of junior accountant and consultant.
In 2001, Marc Hogeboom became a partner at and shareholder of KPMG Netherlands, a title he looks back on with pride and satisfaction. After he was appointed partner, Marc Hogeboom became the head of KPMG Netherlands’ financial services practice as early as 2008. This division is comprised of about 450 professionals who are responsible for servicing banks, insurers, asset managers, leasing companies, and pension funds.
In 2012, he was appointed to the board of directors (ultimately responsible for the audit practice) and a member of the audit board of KPMG International for four years. In his board role, he was directly responsible for over 2,000 employees in the Netherlands.
After these four years, as a senior partner, he was ultimately responsible for services to several of KPMG’s largest financial services clients in an audit and advisory capacity. In 2019, he was asked back by the then supervisory board for a second board term with the ambition to build the largest accounting practice in the Netherlands. Upon his departure from KPMG end 2023, KPMG had the largest accounting practice in the Netherlands with revenues of more than EUR 400 million.
After his impressive career at KPMG, Marc Hogeboom is now very active as an entrepreneur, investor and advisor to various medium and large companies inside and outside the financial sector. He looks back with pride and satisfaction on the great years at KPMG and the experiences he gained there.
Passions outside work
Besides his work and passion for growing and advising businesses, Marc Hogeboom has several other interests that he cherishes and enjoys spending time on. His family comes first, but Marc has a passion for nature, the outdoors and mountains.
In his spare time, Marc Hogeboom seeks out nature, where he finds peace in walks and, with regularity, a challenging mountain hike. He enjoys the peace and freedom the mountains offer during hiking, skiing and mountain trips. Marc also enjoys exploring new frontiers on his road bike, regularly taking challenging rides and enjoying quiet moments on terraces along the way. In addition, he is a frequent gym visitor, aiming to be fit not only mentally but also physically.
